Book Review - The Boy Who Loved

Want to read a depressing story and get depressed yourself? Or do you wish to get bored till death? Or do you just want to read another book by Durjoy Datta and when you finish it, want to question why did you buy the book in the first place?

Hola Amigos! If you have answered any of the above question as a NO, then please, a humble request, DO NOT buy or read the book.

The book i am talking about today, is The Boy Who Loved, by Durjoy Datta!

The plot of the novel which by the way is the first part of a two-part romance, revolves around few characters -

Raghu - a teenage Bengali guy, who deep down has a guilt of letting his 'best friend' drown in the school's swimming pool, who comes from a middle class, typical Bengali family and who aspires to study in IIT. He gets fascinated to Brahmi.

Brahmi - a tall, beautiful girl, who is almost like him, yet different. Staying with her uncle and aunt, she is the school topper, but mysterious.

Raghu despite all the attempts to not fall in love with her, ultimately begins to care and starts spending all possible time with her.

Then there's Raghu's parents - Mr. and Mrs. Ganguly, both working hard to earn as much as possible and save for their kids; Anirban and Raghu.

Anirban - Raghu's older brother and against the ideology of their dad about Muslims being the cause of disharmony in our country, loves and marries a Muslim girl Zubeida.

There's a lot of supporting characters, like the friends Raghu and Brahmi make in school, the neighbours, and so on..

The story sure is dark and edgy (a littlebut it's partial unrealistic and too much words to read and sink into the story, only to get to know, in the end, Brahmi kills herself by jumping off the ledge of a building and asking Raghu to live!

Raghu's character revolves too much around suicidal thoughts every single day of his diary.

Apart from this, there's too much of detailing about the wars, political situations, and the supporting characters!

I don't know what the part two beholds of the story, but, part one is surely gave me unwelcoming story and depressing vibes.

To rate it overall, I would give it a 2 on 5, for the author's attempt to make it dark but, failed dramatically!

P. S. : I'd still like to read the part 2 of the story! Just to know how iends.

Thank You.
