Off lately, I am
glad to be reading fewer but some great books.
The Sunday times
bestseller and the Winner of the 2017 "books are my bag readers" award for
popular fiction, How to Stop Time by Matt Haig, is one amazing book!
When I say
the word “Amazing”, it ought to be no less than it.
The story is of a
man who does look like any ordinary 40+ years old, but has a dark secret to share; he
lives not in years, but centuries!
He is Tom. Tom
Hazard.
Born in 1800’s
this man lived for almost 440 years!
The story is his
journey on the survival of all these years – how he lost his mother, how he has
been living, changing his identity every few years, from England to Paris, from
New York to America – Tom has seen a lot; lived a lot!
After being alive
for so many years and staying “undercover”, Tom finally craves for an ordinary
life.
He lands up in
London, again, where he teaches History to kids, bringing the past to life –
for him, for the kids.
The only thing Tom
must not do, is to fall in Love.
A beautifully
narrated desolate story about losing and finding yourself, about the certainty
of change and about the lifetimes it can take to learn how to live.
The book gets the
reader all captivated from page One. It slowly paints the picture and balances
between 1800’s to 2000’s.
We should all read
some prodigious books like this one, once in a while. It is warm and perceptive and
provocative in a very delightful manner!
One of my
favorite quotes towards the end of the book is –
Everything is going to be all
right. Or if not, everything is going to ‘be’, so let’s not worry.
This is a must
read for anyone who loves the idea of reading stories and getting lost in a beautiful fantasy
world.
